Wanted to do a portrait for a change. He always fascinated me and his eyes are breathtaking. I saw a documentary lately which gave me the idea to give it a try. What do you think?

Something different! Although I am certainly no expert in doing pet portraits I could not resist painting this little fellow.

It is a commission and I hope the client likes it.

Fertig. Habe die letzten Korrekturen angebracht und bin jetzt zufrieden. In Zukunft möchte ich mich noch mehr von den Details lösen.


Done. Put on some final finishing touches and it is much more him. I need to loosen up in the future and get not derailed in details.

Ich habe gestern noch weiter gemalt. Vielleicht etwas zu schnell, denn es gibt noch viel zu korrigieren. Die Liste ist lang, denn es ist noch nicht ganz Mattes. Malen braucht Zeit und Pausen und meine eigene Ungeduld steht mir manchmal im Wege.


Continued the painting yesterday. I probably worked too fast and that´s why there are many details to correct. Painting needs time and breaks. It is not Mattes yet. My impatience hampered the result.

Nach einer viel zu langen Pause zeige ich hier den Beginn eines Porträts. Ich fange immer mit der Augenpartie an, wobei es mir am Anfang nur auf die richtigen Formen und Proportionen ankommt.

I did not paint for a while (much too long). But today I started my next Portrait. In the beginning I do the eyes. Color and tonal values do not matter that much I focus on the right forms and proportion.

Ich bin fertig. Das Blau des Shirts war zu dominant, deswegen habe ich es gedämpft und mehr mit dem Hintergrund verschmolzen. Porträts bringen Spaß, es ist noch viel zu lernen. Ich glaube, ich werde noch ein anderes wagen.

Finished. The blue shirt was to dominant so I blended it into the background. Portraits are fun to do, I think I'll do another one.

Nach vielen Meeresbildern sitze ich seit langem mal wieder an einem Porträt. Es bringt Spaß, sich neuen Herausforderungen zu stellen und Porträts haben ihren besonderen Reiz. Bin noch nicht ganz zufrieden mit dem Bild, deswegen werde ich es ein paar Tage beiseite legen, bevor ich weiter arbeite.

Having done many seascapes recently I decided to leave my comfort zone. Portraits are very special and there is much to learn. I am not happy yet with the painting so I will put it aside for a few days before I continue working on it.

Ich hatte mal wieder Lust, ein Porträt zu malen. Diesmal von meiner kleinen Tochter Line. Die Kreiden sind grob und fast unvermischt aufgetragen.
